چکیده

Zooplankton (Brachionus calyciflorus) was screened from Awuma River at Shabu before the onset of rainy season and isolated into mono specific culture in the laboratory. Cow dung, chicken dropping, groundnut cake, soybean cake, rice bran and single super phosphate were combined in different proportions of three, four and five combination of manure in solution (3CM1...4, 4CM1...4 and 5CM1...4.) in three replicates for culture period of 9 days. The effects of concentration, combination of manures and duration of production of the zooplankton were investigated. Dissolved oxygen, (mg/L) temperature ( 0 C), carbon dioxide (mg/L) and total alkalinity (mg/L) of the water used for the various treatments were monitored. The results of concentrations 4.00ml/L and 8.00 ml/L, manure combinations 5CM1 and 5CM2 treatments had the highest population of B. calyciflorus in their own groups. However there was statistical superiority in population density (245 individual/ml of water) in the interactions of treatment combinations 5CM1 at concentration 4.00ml/L of water on day 5 to day 7 of the culture of this organism. Beyond day 7 a declining population density was observed in B. calyciflorus in treatment combinations. The variations in the results of each water parameters used for the culture of the zooplankton were not significantly different (p>0.05) in each of the various treatments and they were within the acceptable for culture of the rotifer. Treatment 5CM1 at concentration 4.00ml/L on day 5 can be used for mass culture of B. calyciflorus. The results of this study are discussed in light of their

Effect of Permethrin insecticide and Paraquat herbicide on growth and population density of freshwater Rotifer (Brachionus calyciflorus)

This study evaluated the acute toxicity of herbicide paraquat and the insecticide permethrin and their impacts on growth and reproduction of freshwater rotifers Brachionus calyciflorus according to the guidelines OECD. The acute toxicity (LC50 24h) of paraquat and permethrin on freshwater rotifers B. calyciflorus were 0.541 and 8.997 mg l-1, respectively. The level of exposure responses of roti...

Study on population growth and production of cyclopoid copepod Acanthocyclops trajani fed on different diets

In this study the effects of different algal and nonalgal diets on density and population growth rate of cyclopoid copepod Acanthocyclops trajani were studied. To this intention, the copepod were mass cultured in 120 liter tanks by feeding on different diets (5 treatments, 3 replicate in each one) including fresh composition of microalgae: Scenedesmus obliquus and Spirulina maxima (LSS), dried ...

Population growth of Brachionus calyciflorus affected by deltamethrin and imidacloprid insecticides

Rotifers due to their relatively short lifespan, high fecundity and high rate of population growth are ideal for chronic toxicity tests. The aim of this research was to determine the lethal concentrations (LC50 24 h) of deltamethrin and imidaclopride and their impacts on the reproduction and growth of the freshwater rotifer, Brachionus calyciflorus. Experiments were carried out based on the gui...

The effects of oxygen supplementation on growth and survival of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in different stocking densities

In this study, the effects of oxygen supplementation in different stocking densities of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on the specific growth rates (SGR), feed conversion ratios (FCR) and survival rates were investigated in a commercial-scale culture system. High density cultures were maintained in a total of nine (12 m3) flow-through systems supplemented with O2. Initial stocking rates fo...
